The Law and You: Does it Serve You or Them?

Many universal arguments exist between the individual and society. When an individual goes beyond the boundaries, he or she isolates him or herself from the mass of his or her kind. However, when society takes control of the individual, it can control the individual’s will, making him or her someone a blank part of its big machine.

In every society and country today, there are laws. Governments make most of their laws depending on their ethnic beliefs and values. Muslim-oriented countries adopt Muslim values and moralities in their laws. In Catholic and Christian countries, they borrow values from their own religions as well.

As an individual, especially one who has concerned one’s self with becoming self-aware and capable, the laws affect you directly because it limits your freedom to protect the freedom of others. But, if laws can limit you, you could be limited in a world of limitations.

For an individualist who uses ideals that flow with the real world, the laws are only a gauge to an individual’s potential because it protects the interests of the general public. Laws can be broken, but it is the personal responsibility of the offender to know the limits of their immorality, which is deemed by the society.

Clearly, the law serves you and society, which is why to avoid conflict with each other, both must follow them. However, some leaders or governments may design laws that favour only certain individuals and this is where laws only cater to an individual, which is morally incorrect, but clearly displays the idea of might versus rightness.

In idea, the law serves nobody. It is but a gauge that protects people by using established morality to condemn an action. It serves to preserve the current status quo, but one must be vigilant to find the balance in any imbalance the breaking of laws, or abuse of laws, might actually pose.
